Fr. Sullivan Letter 03-20-2020
Dear Parishioners and Friends,

During these days of uncertainty we can be assured that the Lord is ever-present and is with us during this time.

Follows is a PRAYER FOR PROTECTION IN TIME OF PANDEMIC. I ask that you join our parish community and recite the prayer each day during this stressful time. As you know, prayer is powerful. Let us call on Mary, the Patroness of our Nation, as we pray for an end to this pandemic and for the good for all in our community, our nation, and the world.

God Bless you,

Fr. Sullivan

Stewardship

Stewardship
“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again.” (John 4:13)
Jesus reminds us that material things, even something as basic as water, can never satisfy us for long and leave us wanting for more. True Joy and Peace only comes when we follow Jesus; when we become more “God-centered” and less “self-centered.”
As Jesus’s disciples, we are called to be Stewards of the many blessings, talents, gifts, and resources which the Lord has given to each us.  As baptized members of Christ’s Church, we are called to actively participate in the mission of the Church to bring the reign of God’s love, peace, joy, freedom, justice, mercy, forgiveness, compassion, healing, and salvation to our time and place, and especially to the poor and those in need.

In its simplest terms, Stewardship asks us to put God's priorities before our own. Good Stewards give the first portion of their gifts of time, talent, and material resources to the Lord's work in gratitude for the many blessings bestowed on us. This practice of giving of our "first fruits" incorporates the aspect of sacrificial giving.  God does not judge us by how much we give, but by how faithful we are in making the gift. Stewardship is a lifelong commitment to our Lord.

ARCHBISHOP'S MARCH 13, 2020 STATEMENT REGARDING CELEBRATION OF MASSES AND SUSPENSION OF OTHER EVENTS

"Guidelines for Visiting the Sick in Their Homes Under Quarantine to Distribute Holy Communion - March 13, 2020"

ARCHDIOCESE OF MIAMI GUIDELINES TO HELP PREVENT THE SPREAD OF CONTAGION
The Archdiocese of Miami offers the following guidelines parishes can employ to help prevent the spread of contagion.  The same precautions taken for the flu are also to be employed to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Because we now have two confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the state of Florida, the following practices are suggested.
  • Temporary suspension of the minor chalices used for the distribution of the Precious Blood.

  • Temporary suspension of the communal Sign of Peace (kissing or shaking of hands).

  • Not to hold hands during the recitation/chanting of the Our Father.

  • Temporary suspension of the greeting before Mass (if your parish has this practice).

  • Emptying the holy water fonts at the church doors.

  • Use of anti-bacterial soap by the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion before and after distribution of the Host.

  • Reminding parishioners that if they feel unwell or have flu like symptoms they are encouraged to stay home.

  • The celebrant is to use discretion if he shakes hands while greeting parishioners before or after the Mass.
As the distribution of Holy Communion involves contact with both the mouth and hands, any Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion who feels uncomfortable distributing Communion should be allowed to temporarily step down from ministry.

It is still left to the discretion of the communicant how they wish to receive the Host.

If circumstances should change in the coming days and weeks that require a different course of action, further information or measures will be forthcoming.
